Over Reach Boots
These boots are an important part of protecting the back of the horses leg from pastern to bulbs of heel, as they protect against possible injuries from overreaching with their hind legs on to their front legs. The use of overreach boots prevents bruising, abrasion on the horses heels and helps to prevent the loosening or loss of shoes. Most makes which are most popular such as Acavallo, Castle, HY, Lemieux, Roma, Veredus and WoofWear have extra padding for added protection and comfort, as well as a hard-wearing outer layer to prevent scrapes and double tape to make the boots more secure and prevent spinning and loosening.
You can get different boots for different uses however most are universal and can be used for training, competitions, turnout and travelling. Overreach boots come in a variety of materials including Rubber, Kevlar, Leather, Neoprene and Sheepskin. Popular brands such as Veredus manufacture boots with a tough but lightweight Carbon outer and Lemieux provide a range of tough Kevlar boots.
Overreach Boots – These are the less hard-wearing boots and are either made from rubber or other materials such as leather, PVC or Nylon that are waterproof. Neoprene is often used inside of these boots as it is a soft, breathable material that allows the horse to be comfortable in the boots.
Bell Boots – These are the harder-wear boots, some have no strap and pull over the hoof however most have a Velcro strap as they are easier to put on this way. These boots are usually made from rubber which gives them the durability for longer wear/use.
