Fly Spray & Sweet Itch Spray for Horses
Flies are pests we could do without! As horse owners and riders, our Discount Equestrian team understands the struggle and stress caused by flies during summer months. That is the reason we stock only the best quality products in our excellent Fly Sprays & Sweet Itch range – we can’t let flies ruin otherwise fabulous summer rides, all-important turnout, and our horses’ midday snooze.
Fly sprays are a ‘must have’ for every grooming box and tack room. However, fly repellents are available in a variety of presentations with differing application methods, which ensures there’s something for every horse in our amazing Fly Sprays & Sweet Itch collection.
At Discount Equestrian, we offer a fabulous range of effective, market-leading fly sprays, gels, creams, and roll-on sticks containing ingredients that have been scientifically proven to repel flies and enhance your horse’s comfort.
Although it is important to repel flies to keep our horses comfortable, the irritation caused by flies can have a severely negative impact, especially for horses who suffer from sweet itch. For instance, horses who engage in intense scratching and rubbing because of irritation from flies can experience an array of issues such as broken skin, hair loss, bruising, and cuts – any damage to skin can open the gateway to infection, as well as cause discomfort. And by repelling flies, you’re preventing the spread of infection by limiting your horse’s exposure to fly-borne diseases.
Finer breeds such as Thoroughbreds with smooth coats and thinner skin as well as foals and youngstock are particularly susceptible to irritation from flies due the sensitivity of their skin, they can be prone to swelling around fly bites and as such it is important to choose an effective fly repellent to maintain their well being. If you compete, whether pony club, local showing or affiliated, it is a great idea to have at least two bottles of fly spray – one in your trailer and one around the yard so you are never caught without. For the best fly sprays around, view our range at Discount Equestrian today.
From experience, our Discount Equestrian team advise you to apply fly spray, fly gel, fly cream, or fly repelling roll-on stick a minimum of twice a day in summer months – though research suggests flies are most active at dawn and dusk, in our experience, flies can be a nuisance at any time of day. We also recommend focusing on the vulnerable areas of your horse’s skin, such as the area around their eyes, around their ears, their abdomen, and their tail. Remember to take a look through our Shampoos and Bathing category where you will find an excellent selection of Insecticidal shampoo's and also the Veterinary category where you will find creams and lotions to help with many skin related issues as well as Sweet Itch.
** PLEASE NOTE: we recommend that you always use caution when applying any product near your horse’s eyes, ears, nose, and/or mouth – if a product comes into contact with any sensitive areas, please contact your vet immediately! **
