Sprenger Bits and What makes them so good - Bit Hire Service - Try before you Buy

Sprenger Bit Bank - Try Before You Buy

Our Sprenger Bit Bank allows you to try any of the Sprenger Bits (excluding rubber or plastic) before you buy.  Simply buy the bit, try it for 28 days from the date you receive delivery and if you dont like it simply send it back and receive a full refund for the bit less the bit hire charge of £15.00 per bit.

Which bit is the right one for my horse?

Every rider has asked themselves this question which is often followed by investing a fortune, as every bit can work differently for each horse and rider. Sprenger has developed the TEST CENTER to give consumer support. It presents a clearly arranged selection of different bit variations that, for a small fee, the rider can borrow for testing. This will give the customer the opportunity to test the bit over a period of time without a commitment to purchase if the bit is not suitable and have the option of trying another.

Why Sprenger?

Sprenger have been making bits for 150 years and even now every bit is hand crafted in their workshop in Germany.  SPRENGER only uses carefully selected high quality raw materials for the production to be able to offer a consistently excellent quality. Their suppliers are bound by contract to bring test certificates and material analyses for every new delivery that they receive. In addition they conduct our own quality controls. A deviation from the required quality is not accepted. Together with the controls being done after each production step they are able to guarantee that you receive a product in a class of its own.

Most of the worlds greatest riders only use Sprenger bits, they include Charlotte Dujardin, Laura Tomlinson, Ingrid Klimke, Carl Hester, Jean Bemelmanns, Klaus Balkenhol, Marco Kuscher, Markus & Johannes Ehning, Gunter Seidel, Ruth Edge, Jan Ebling, Roger Yves-Bost, Jade Hook, Fia Lindh, Jos Lasnik, Alois Pollmann Schweckhorst, Lisa Wilcox, Hubertus Schmidt, Helen Langehanenberg and Bettina Hoy,

NUVOCONTACT - UNIQUELY SHAPED, ESPECIALLY SENSITIVE

The brand new novocontact bit range was launched by Sprenger at Spoga horse fair in February 2015, Cologne.

Sprenger’s latest invention is a unique oval shape design which widens the contact area of the mouthpiece on the horse’s tongue, without putting pressure on the palate.

When the rider keeps a steady contact, the flat part of the mouthpiece lies sensitively on the horse’s tongue. As the rider gives a rein aid the mouthpiece turns forward meaning the contact surface gets narrower, ensuring a more precise and effective communication. When giving the reins, the mouthpiece turns back to its soft and smooth position with the flat part lying delicately on the tongue.

NOVOCONTACT

single jointed

Tests have shown that the single jointed novocontact bits are highly recommended for horses that do not take the contact confidently. They also provide added benefit for horses with a sensitive mouth, since the rider is able to give precise but soft aids.

NOVOCONTACT

double jointed

The double jointed novocontact bits are also ideal to use on horses that occasionally tend to pull against the hand, but are too sensitive to be ridden with stronger bits.

A MILESTONE FOR HORSE AND RIDER - SENSOGAN®

SENSOGAN® – the new bit material developed by Sprenger – is the result of additional development and consequently the improvement of our original material, Aurigan. We have built on the success and positive features of Aurigan, specifically the taste and salivation aspects to give an even more delicate and sophisticated connection to the horse. It is the distinctive composition of copper, manganese and zinc that makes SENSOGAN® so special. With a reduced copper content the oxidation process is still maintained, however, the extraordinary combination with manganese is what makes the difference. This combination results in a smoother and more regulated process of oxidation. Tests show a very positive influence on the horse’s satisfaction, motivation and willingness to perform. The copper discharge quantity into the horse’s saliva is reduced considerably, which helps to keep the noble white- gold colour for a longer time. The new ingredient manganese on the other hand is an important micronutrient. As a crucial component and activator of enzymes, manganese is highly relevant for building up connective tissue as well as for the muscle and energy metabolism. It can therefore be helpful in preventing muscle tension and in supporting stress reduction. Beyond that, manganese is needed for the reduction of histamine and can prevent allergic skin reactions. Also, the feed industry discovered manganese to be a promising food additive that is gaining in importance in modern feeding of sport horses.

Optimal effects – unmatched look

SENSOGAN® has improved properties but also a new appearance. The white-goldcolour gives the bit a discreet and elegant look and due to the improved material mix, SENSOGAN® does not tarnish easily as the chewing activity of the horse is optimally supported. It is easy to care for and maintains its elegant appearance over a long time period. All SENSOGAN® bits are marked with a black ring at the cheeks.

The advantages of SENSOGAN

  •  toxicologically tested
  •  high compatibility and exceptionally well tolerated
  •  easy to clean
  •  consistent flow of saliva

Individual design options, multiple combinations.

A wide range of our bit designs is now available in SENSOGAN®. It is also possible to purchase many of the various mouthpieces with bit rings and cheeks made from stainless steel and Aurigan to ensure your bit matches your individual bridle design.

Intensive research and development

When it comes to developing and redesigning new models and products, we work closely together with a team of experts. It often takes months and years of research and testing to find positive results. As far as the
development of SENSOGAN® is concerned, the special challenge was to maintain the positive features of Aurigan and to intensify them. In collaboration with the Veterinary University of Hanover and the German Riding School in Warendorf this breakthrough was achieved and
SENSOGAN® was born. The scientifically proven tests showed without doubt the extremely positive effects of the new material.

AURIGAN - THE ORIGINAL SPRENGER MATERIAL

Bits and Weymouth bits made of the patented material AURIGAN produce this distinctive and pleasant taste that horses love. This particular taste encourages horses to chew and produce saliva which promotes the rapid acceptance of the AURIGAN bits - the best connection for a successful horse and rider team.

AURIGAN is not just a colour, but a taste that horses love.
AURIGAN provides a specific smell which can even be realized by the human nose. Horses love this special smell and taste and therefore accept the bit rapidly. Vendors of "down market products" have tried to copy AURIGAN for a long time. These copies seem to offer the same advantages like original AURIGAN as they also have the same shiny golden colour. However, in addition to copper there are other materials like aluminium added which inhibit the oxidation and therefore cannot attain the same beneficial effect. It is also claimed that one of the other materials is warming up faster in the horse’s mouth therefore giving a pleasurable feeling when accepting the bit — a statement that was confounded by tests. AURIGAN warms up extremely quickly in the horse’s mouth — faster than any other material used in equestrian sports. As a consequenceAURIGAN also conveys a pleasant feeling for the horse in this aspect.

The evolution of AURIGAN

It is known that copper encourages the production of saliva and therefore the chewing activity due to its oxidation in the horse’s mouth. The only problem is that pure copper is too soft to be used as a bitting material. Since time immemorial the copper alloy German Silver has been used for the manufacturing of bits. SPRENGER produced German Silver bits since its company founding in the year 1872. We made it our business to develop an alloy that expresses the advantages of copper even more and features an extremely high breaking strength. So SPRENGER evolved AURIGAN in collaboration with the Veterinary University of Hanover which exceeds the quality of the established German Silver by far. Furthermore, long-term studies have proven that AURIGAN and its oxidation are really appreciated by horses.
