Bucas Horse Rugs
“The Intelligent Choice.”
As stated on their website, “Bucas have been designing, creating and making high performance horse rugs and equestrian products since 1981.”
Bucas offer a wide range of horse rugs including some of the most technologically advanced rugs on the market. The more advanced Bucas rugs are typically not measured by weight of filling like traditional rugs and blankets. With rugs such as the Bucas Power Turnout and Smartex Turnout Rugs ,Bucas take the approach of using more advanced fabrics which are often a lighter weight but typically outperform the traditional wadding you find in a regular rug. You will find a rug for every budget and every requirement, the staff here at Discount Equestrian have used the Power Turnout and Smartex rugs for years and they are all still performing as good as new. No rips, no leaks, just a wash and reproof every now and then.
Features included in some of the Bucas® rugs mentioned above are an antibacterial lining, a stay-dry or dermo-care lining, waterproof outer, breathable material, silk-feel lining, ballistic nylon, sun reflective outer, rip stop outer, and more! Most Bucas® rugs can be used as part of the ‘Layering System’ too, and many feature the patented Click n’ Go front fastenings with magnetic Snap-Lock closures.
Bucas Temperature Gauge
Rugs such as the Power Turnout, Irish Turnout Rugs , Smartex and Celtic Stable use a temperature gauge in the description which indicates the temperature the rugs are designed for. The Green area of the gauge represents the optimum temperature, use this if your horse is likely to be subject to this range for long periods of time. One important thing to remember is that the gauge is based on an unclipped horse, if your horse is fully clipped around the main body you should add 10 degrees to the temperatures, for example a Power Turnout light on a fully clipped horse what be optimal for 0 degrees upwards. Another point to consider is that you can stray outside the Green range a little, for example if your using a Power Turnout light on a clipped horse which is rated down to 0 degrees and it happens to be around -2 or -3 degrees, you should be fine turning your horse out for a few hours through the day.
The large temperature range these Bucas rugs provide gives you piece of mind whilst your horse is turned out. If your weather conditions fits in to temperature range you no longer have to worry about it being cold through the night then too warm for your horse through the day, you can be confident that he or she is always dry and at a comfortable temperature.
Bucas Stay Dry Lining
One feature you will find in many of the Bucas Stable, Turnout and Cooler rugs is the Stay Dry Lining developed by Bucas. This material helps to draw moisture away from the horses body and keep it away. One of the biggest advantages is the ability to put your turnout or stable rug directly on a wet horse. The rug will dry the horse and moisture will dissipate through the breathable rug fabric with the help of your horses body heat. The cooler rugs use this fabric which makes them perfect for all round use as cooler and travels rugs but excellent just after bathing your horse. The Bucas coolers are also excellent as under rugs adding that little extra warmth and comfort when needed.
Bucas Balistic Nylon
If your tired of picking up pieces of rugs from around the field and the ongoing cost of repairing and replacing then the Power Turnout, Smartex or Multi Power are the rugs for you. They are made with Ballistic nylon outers which is extremely tough and hard wearing. Through experience customers as well as staff here actually save money over the years the rugs have lasted instead of opting to continue replacing cheaper rugs. These particular rugs also feature a 3 year warranty for added piece of mind. This is not to say your horse may love to play or be a bit of a Houdini, or one of the other reasons why your rugs end up in tatters. The rug outer on the Power, Smartex and Multi is extremely difficult to rip or tear, even when snagged on something. Their Ballistic outer is easily the toughest material we have found on a rug, however something has to give, as you know they are particularly big strong animals and it would be unsafe to completely restrict them should they run in to difficulty and get caught up on something. We have found ourselves that if something is going to rip or be the weakest point it will be usually either the stitching that connects the surcingles to the rug or the Velcro fasteners for the neck cover. This is a much better outcome as the rug material is still intact and the rug clips, surcingle’s etc. can be quite easily repaired or replaced, much better than a big tear down the side of your rug.
