Horse Under Rugs

Under rugs keep horses warm in cold weather when placed beneath a stable rug or turnout rug. You may also see under rugs called blanket or rug liners for horses. Add an under rug to customize and adjust your horse's sheets and blankets and quickly adapt to climate changes. There is less need to purchase multiple rugs of all weights when using horse rug liners.  

While under rugs for horses are best known for adding an extra layer of warmth for your horse during chilly winter months, they have many other uses. Under rugs can also be used for padding and comfort as your horse lies down. When used daily, under rugs keep the insides of your horse's blankets much cleaner, reducing the need to launder. That barrier is also helpful when trying new blankets for the perfect fit. Horse under rugs also keep your horse's coat sparkling before a competition.

The weights and sizes of a horse under rug liner are consistent with stable rugs and turnout rugs. They are shorter because they are used as a liner, allowing the outer rug to encompass the liner and protect it from wet weather. And just like their counterparts, you can find a horse under rug with neck attachments and shoulder gussets to fully protect your horse. Under rugs are sized similarly, with their weight of fill in grams. A horse rug liner of 100g will be lighter than an under rug of 300g. 

 Clips, D-rings, and other attachments allow secure fitting underneath your horse's outer rug. For additional cushion, many styles feature fleece withers. Alternatively, some horse under rugs use artificial rabbit skin to prevent rubs. Innovative fabrics are anti-static and machine-washable and may include filling that will not absorb odors.

A horse under rug bib is a square of soft fabric that tucks under a horse's neck to prevent rubs. You can also add a scarf to cover your horse from poll to wither and includes shoulder coverage. Choose a fleece or wool liner for a horse prone to sweating under their stable rug. This style is square and drapes over your horse to absorb moisture and sweat.
