The lunge line allows the handler to control the horse’s speed, direction, and overall movement from a distance, encouraging the horse to engage its hindquarters, develop balance, and respond to voice commands. They are typically around 8 to 10 meters long, giving the horse enough room to move freely while staying connected to the handler.

Lunge lines often feature a swivel clip or buckle to attach to a lunge cavesson, bridle, or headcollar, and many have a padded handle for comfort. Some also have added features like markers for easy length adjustment or a reinforced end for durability.
