Established in 1839, Robinson Healthcare is one of the most reputable manufacturers of consumable healthcare products in the UK.
Here’s the Robinson Healthcare story, “The company was founded in 1839 when John Bradbury Robinson, a retail chemist in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, decided to set up a business making pill boxes. 16 years later the business diversified and started manufacturing surgical dressings to meet the huge demand created by the Crimean War.
The business pioneered the manufacture of medical cotton wool and worked in partnership with Dr Joseph Sampson Gamgee to patent and manufacture the world famous Gamgee tissue.
Almost all Robinson Healthcare products are produced at a large UK manufacturing facility in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Single use instruments, which are classed as medical devices, are AQL inspected and hygienically packaged in a large Class 7 cleanroom, then sterilised by Ethylene Oxide gas to meet rigorous quality standards.
Cotton wool products are manufactured from raw materials offering optimum versatility and rapid response to changes in customer demand. Robinson Healthcare’s factory is also approved to manufacture licensed veterinary medicinal products.
The UK’s only licensed veterinary poultice dressing complemented by veterinary woundcare and cotton wool products.”
Following is a statement from Robinsons Healthcare about their product quality, legislation and legal compliance, “Compliance with legislation and standards is fundamental to Robinson Healthcare’s philosophy in all areas of the business, resulting in high quality products that exceed the appropriate product and manufacturing standards and meet the rigorous demands of customers, whilst offering exceptional value for money.
Enacted in UK law by The Veterinary Medicines Regulations 2009, SI 2009/2297. Robinson Healthcare products include: veterinary poultice dressings. Enforced by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD).
In addition to using BSI for all medical devices conformity assessments, Robinson Healthcare also uses BSI to independently certify compliance with a number of other very important standards. These include:
BS EN ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System certification
BS EN ISO 13485:2016 – Medical Devices Quality Management System certification
BS EN ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System certification”
Here is some information about Robinson Healthcare’s environmental and ethical policies, “Robinson Healthcare invests heavily in environmentally friendly manufacturing procedures and has certification to BS EN ISO 14001:2004, the internationally recognised standard that defines the establishment, implementation and operation of an Environmental Management System (EMS).
The EMS is a framework that allows Robinson Healthcare to consistently control its impact on the environment, reduce the risk of releasing pollutants, ensure compliance with environmental legislation and continually improve its business operations. Robinson Healthcare has made significant investment in a number of areas:
Efficient use of natural resources achieved by the installation of a new high temperature steam generation plant and air compressors
Reduced impact on the local community through noise reduction initiatives
Strict recycling policy, sending virtually zero waste to landfill
Transfer of packaging materials to options that are wholly recyclable or recycled
The company is fully committed to continual improvement in all areas, as required by ongoing certification to BS EN ISO14001:2004.
Robinson Healthcare operates to high ethical standards. To demonstrate this, the company is independently audited in compliance with the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code. This is a nine point, internationally recognised code of labour practice. The audit also encompasses raw material suppliers, requiring compliance with the code in the context of local employment legislation.”
