Saddle Riser Pads from Top Brands
A saddle riser pad is a piece of tack that can play an important role for your horse’s well-being. Riser pads, also known as corrective pads, are utilized to decrease pressure coming from the saddle plus to absorb shock from your horse’s back. Saddle pad risers usually come in neutral colours such as white, clear gel and black and are mostly made from gel and/or memory foam materials. In general, both gel and memory foam riser pads are designed to provide that additional tweak, aiding in both a correct and comfortable fit of the saddle on your Horse or Pony. Our team at Discount Equestrian have chosen a collection of top-quality saddle riser pads at a discounted price.

Not every horse will need a riser pad, so to check if your horse needs one, look at the saddle that your horse currently has. Put the saddle on your horse’s back with no other padding, and if you notice that the cantle (back part of the saddle) sits lower than the pommel (front part of the saddle) or vice versa, a riser pad can help correct this problem. Rear riser pads such as the Gelico Rear Riser Gel Pad by Elico can help balance a cantle that sits too low in relation to the pommel. A front riser pad on the other hand, will help with correcting disbalance coming from a pommel sitting too low. Generally, when looking at a horse, a front riser pad will be needed for those with high withers or lack of muscles around the shoulder area. Riser pads mostly come as a fully gel product, but some memory foam riser pads are available. You are more likely to find fully memory foam-based pads under our Corrective Pads category which includes corrective pads from brands such as Lemieux, Gel-Eze, Kentucky and Premier Equine.
You will also notice a few Sheepskin gel riser pad options such as the Acavallo Just Gel Lambskin Front Riser Half Pad. These are designed to leave a stylish Sheepskin or Lambskin finish to the edge that will protrude and be just visible around the front and rear edges of your saddle.
One thing that is important to note is that although riser pads can often help fix minor saddle fit problems, more severe issues must be looked at by saddle fitting experts.
Choosing the Right Gel Riser Pads
High quality at an affordable price is important for our team at Discount Equestrian, which is why we have outsourced a collection of high-quality riser pads at a fair price. The brands Lemieux, Gel Eze and Acavallo all offer honeycomb structured front riser pads which are great for lifting the saddle up at the front as well as helping with shock absorption at the main weight-bearing areas. These brands also make the same structured gel riser pad for the rear part of the saddle. Sheepskin riser pads may have a bit of a more aesthetic look but come at a greater price point. Due to the material and build, it is important to note that the price of gel riser pads can sometimes creep up (price point ranges from around £40 to £140). With that in mind, we offer discounts on many of our horse tack products including Numnahs and Close Contact Saddlepads.
