Horse Medical Boots
As horse owners, our dedicated Discount Equestrian team share a passion for equine welfare. Whatever the reason your horse may need a little extra support for their limbs, to keep them in the best of health there’s a perfect product waiting for them in our excellent Medical Boots range.
Medical boots can come in the form of cold or hot therapy boots or alternatively you could take a look at Magnetic boots.
The cooling boots can be cooled or frozen and work by compressing the cold air into the horse’s leg to reduce any swelling and ease any sprains or strains. The most popular makes of cold boots are Lemieux, JHL and WoofWear and they all have cold preservation properties as well as the secure close fitting which allows the compression of the cold air to take place.
Traditionally you would use bandages to add compression and cool packs etc to Horses legs. Now many manufacturers have all in one boots where cool packs can be slipped inside special pockets within the boots.
Heat boots can be warmed to provide heat therapy which can relieve stress in the horse’s muscles and help to recover injuries and swelling. WoofWear makes a heated boot as well as hot and cold packs. The magnetic boots also control temperature as they stimulate the blood flow to reduce overheating, swelling and pain. The main brand for the magnetic boots is Veredus.
From hoof boots to keep poultices in place and turnout boots that prevent mud fever, to cooling wraps for use after exercise and specialist boots that provide magnetic therapy, you’ll discover the ideal product for your horse right here! However, prior to purchasing products with remedial properties, we strongly advise contacting your vet – or a qualified equine chiropractor/physiotherapist – for guidance in relation to your horse’s individual requirements.
Here are some of the bestselling products available in our amazing Medical Boots collection:
Woof Wear Mud Fever Turnout Boot – “An innovative, breathable boot which seals the leg from the knee to the base of the heel to prevent mud getting onto your horse’s legs, enabling freedom of turnout whatever the conditions. Featuring a waterproof and breathable fabric around the cannon bone to prevent overheating, and a close-fitting hoof capsule with Kevlar® reinforced heel protection, these boots will keep legs clean and dry. A shaped, PU strike pad also offers brushing protection for your horse’s legs. The Mud Fever Turnout Boot works by preventing bacteria-laden mud from coming into contact with the skin and allowing the skin to stay cool and dry under the boot – preventing bacteria from multiplying. Some useful tips to remember when dealing with mud fever: never scratch the scabs, this can lead to further infection; use a mild anti-bacterial shampoo for cleansing, then ensure the leg is as dry as possible before applying any appropriate creams for healing overnight; clean your grooming brushes regularly, as they can harbour bacteria if not kept clean; don’t use dirty boots, as they can rub your horse’s legs and damage their skin; don’t share boots between horses, this is to help prevent the spread of bacteria and other nasties; use gloves where possible when treating mud fever, and don’t forget to wash your own hands after cleaning any mud fever infected area.”
Woof Wear® Stable Boots with Bio Ceramic Liners – “Supportive stable boots with bio-ceramic technology promote healing and aid recovery via Far Infrared Rays (FIR). The sleek, anatomical, and ergonomic design is angled to work with your horse’s leg to ensure support in all the right areas without inhibiting their movement. Stable Boots can also be used with towelling liners, giving these boots dual purpose. How Bio Ceramic Fabric Works: 1. The Bio Ceramic fabric emits and reflects the body’s own Far Infrared Rays (FIR); 2. FIR penetrates deep into the tissue, stimulating the body’s cells; 3. The stimulation causes the blood vessels to dilate, increasing circulation. Benefits of Stable Boots include increased circulation resulting in the efficient removal of toxin build up, and
increases in oxygen and nutrient delivery to speed up the healing process. These Stable Boots aid in reducing inflammation, they promote healing, they prevent swelling, they warm-up your horse’s legs before exercise, and they’ve been reported to improve flexion.”
Veredus® Magnetik Hock Boots – “A boot made with breathable Aerox material, lined and trimmed in Lycra, it guarantees optimum temperature of the leg, thereby reducing overheating of the tendon system. Magnetik Hock Boots are designed to reduce pain and swelling, stimulate the flow of blood, speed up the elimination of toxins, and speed up the regenerative process. Magnetik Hock Boots are non-invasive.”
LeMieux® ProCool Cold Water Boots – “Unique, water-reactive crystals within these boots swell and retain a cold temperature when soaked in water. Their contoured shape supports the fetlock and tendon, which prevents slipping. Easy to use, environmentally-friendly as they’re re-usable, and especially effective after XC or when treating an injury. Ideal for use immediately after exercise, though can also be used during exercise.”
Rhinegold® Sports Medicine Boots – “Neoprene support boot with soft textured outer, and four, wide-strap, touch-tape fastenings for ease of use and full fetlock support. A quicker alternative to bandaging whilst offering full ligament support. Designed for front or hind leg use. Available in black, purple, raspberry, royal blue, and white.”
ColdOne® 3-in-1 Wraps – “The best boots of their type, 3-in-1 Wraps combine cold therapy and compression therapy in a single product, to reduce pain and swelling around the fetlock and hoof areas. 3 in 1 Wraps are fully adjustable, and can be used to treat awkward joints including hocks, knees, and fetlocks. The outer layer of heavy neoprene provides stretch and compression. The centre layer is 100% non-toxic, freezable, gel with amazing cold retention properties. The inner layer is of fine linen, to prevent cold shock as well as to prevent burning the skin. When using these wraps there’s no messy ice, no inserts, and the wrap can be pre-frozen to take to shows.”
