Boots that are designed specifically for a horse’s knees or hocks are essential for safe travelling, though they may also be used during recovery from injuries, or for alleviating ailments such as arthritis or capped hocks.
Knee boots – for use on your horse’s forelegs – cover the front portion of your horse’s knees to protect against injury from falls, slips, and trips. It is advisable that you use knee boots for your horse when in transit, because boots can protect your horse’s delicate carpal bones should they happen to collide with hard surfaces in a horsebox or trailer.
Hock boots – for use on your horse’s hindlegs – cover the back portion of your horse’s hock joints, protecting their delicate tarsal bones from injury. Just as knee boots are often used when transporting a horse, hock boots can protect your horse’s hock joint from impact whilst travelling. However, hock boots are also available in a magnetic format, which has been proven to ease symptoms of joint pain and swelling from ailments such as arthritis.
Both Knee and Hock boots provide extra padding to prevent injury from collision with any hard surfaces, obstacles or even their own knees. Some of our brands of knee and hock boots are Veredus and WoofWear which both have temperature control, are excellent fit and help to prevent abrasion and swelling. Different materials allow the boot to do different things, PU leather has 2 layers so this material provides extra protection for the shell of the boot. PoronXrd material is lightweight, soft, contouring and absorbs over 90% of energy when presented with impact, this makes it a good material for the strike area of the knee and hock boots. Neoprene material is a flexible water resistant fabric, this allows the leg to be able to breathe and keep cool and keep water at bay.
If you need any advice regarding the use or fitting of knee or hock boots, we advise contacting a qualified riding instructor, equine chiropractor, or equine physiotherapist – you’re also welcome to contact our team for assistance.

Magnetotherapy is a medical method that treats several pathologies using magnetic fields. The magnetic fields provide significant benefits in all inflammatory processes which are often accompanied by pain. The benefit is obtained through a reduction of the inflammatory process and, at the same time, an analgetic action with respect to the tissue nerve fibres. Veredus Magnetik Hock Boots are non-invasive.”
